Election Day is Almost Here—November 8, 2022

The November 8, 2022, election day is almost here! San Francisco has some changes for the upcoming election and the SF Department of Elections has tools to help you understand and participate:

San Francisco has new voting district lines in 2022. Check this link for new maps, a presentation on 2022 voting district map changes, and FAQs.

Many polling places have changed. Redistricting triggered many precincts to change, so many voters will have new polling places this election. Voters can find their new polling place at sfelections.org/myvotinglocation, available in early October.

Non-citizen voting has been declared void. On July 29, 2022, the Superior Court of the City and County of San Francisco declared the local law permitting non-citizen voting in School Board elections contrary to the California Constitution that requires voters to be U.S. citizens. The court’s order required the Department of Elections to immediately cease administration of non-citizen registration and voting. Unless and until a subsequent legal action permits the Department to resume administration of non-citizen registration and voting, no non-citizens will be issued ballots in any future San Francisco elections, including the upcoming November 8 School Board election.

Voter guides on every topic. Find the basics including ways to vote, ranked-choice voting, language access, and what’s on the ballot on the Voting information page.

Get involved. Want to participate on election day? Check the Get Involved page for opportunities to serve as a poll worker, explore outreach efforts, and observe the process.

VOTE! All voters who were registered by the October 24 registration deadline should automatically receive vote-by-mail ballots in the mail. Check out the Ways to Vote page for more ways you can cast your ballot.

Voting is a right and a simple but important way to participate in our democracy. The Library of Congress provides a history of the right to vote and how it has been expanded and protected. Make your voice count by preparing to vote!
