App Alert: Adobe Scan

App Alert Adobe Scan

Turn your phone into an instant scanner!  Adobe recently released Adobe Scan, a free app which allows you to use your phone as a doc/PDF scanner.  Simply take a picture of the document you want and watch it automatically become a PDF.  And that’s not all!  Once scanned, the text on the page becomes searchable digital text which you can then highlight, annotate, and edit.  To use this feature you need to have the Adobe Acrobat app, which is also free to download.  You can access the document through your Adobe Document Cloud account (you can set one up for free) and then edit it on your desktop as well.

The Law Library is the perfect place to try out this useful and efficient tool.  There is no page limit to scanning, and the app even lets you capture nontraditional items such as whiteboards or presentation slides.  You can scan a wide range of our materials, from newspapers and practice guides to older volumes (such as our collection of historical San Francisco municipal codes and ordinances) which would otherwise be too fragile to scan.

Adobe Scan works on both Android and iOS platforms.  Take a look at the video below to see how you can use your phone as a portable scanner:
